East. Photographs by Alessandro Treggiari
Between 2015 and 2021, the author travelled through the territories of Eastern Europe using public transport, mainly local and third-class trains. From Bratislava to Moscow, from Tirana to Murmansk, beyond the Arctic Circle, without planning stops and destinations in advance (sometimes without even setting a return date), he travels through stations, landscapes and desolations.
Many of the photographs shown do not represent geographically identifiable locations and could have been taken anywhere. Each image is like a page of a diary, testimony to a wandering on the borders of our interiority. A photograph that does not describe the world, but how the photographer fits into this world.
